One of ICHO's very first goals from our formation beginnings, was to research the Curly horse so we could base our ideas and views about Curlies backed with scientific fact. GAIT Gene Study Results
Two Dominant Curly Coat genes have been found! Missense variant in Keratin 25 gene found to cause Curly Dominant Hair coats in horses. KRT25 is found in horses of Native/Warrior, Damele, Salt Wells, WY, Fredell, Canadian and many NV BLM horses. SP6 variant has also been isolated in the Curly Jim line Curlies.
NEW RESEARCH- ICHO is actively documenting all Curlies that have been lab tested for Genetic diseases.
