Current news and updates
Two Curly Coat gene mutations have been found! Missense variant in Keratin 25 gene mutation found to cause Curly Dominant Hair coats in horses. This new found gene KRT25 mutation is found in horses of Native/Warrior, Damele, Canadian, Fredell and WY Salt Wells BLM horses and many Nevada BLM Curlies. See our homepage to test for KRT25 & SP6 mutations.
SP6 mutation causes Curly hair coats in our Curly Jim line Curlies. All horses that have been found to carry SP6 mutation trace back to Curly Jim. A huge thank you to Dr Cothran for his continued work with ICHO and this important research for our Curlies.

ICHO and IFCE have worked out some details to speed up the processing of registrations and passports in France. Owners will now deal with ICHO directly for payments and submit online applications for registration. Do NOT send payment or paperwork to OnCurls as that will delay the processing of your applications. Use this webpage for all your registration needs- /francaises.html
The French les Haras Nationaux/IFCE and ICHO have entered into a formal agreement for registering all French Born Curly horses in 2012 and the future. ICHO is now the mother stud book for all French born Curlies.

New DNA typing requirements
DNA typing is done through U of KY for ICHO
ICHO has always used the University of Kentucky for our DNA parentage testing but we have also accepted DNA reports from other labs as well to keep "on file". Meaning we have the report in the horses file but it is not in the U of KY database that ICHO uses. To be able to do parentage testing for a registry, all DNA results must be recorded in the one lab database used for that registry. In 2012 all DNA accepted by ICHO must be also entered into the U of KY database. We will now offer all DNA parentage testing through U of KY only and it is automatically entered in their database. If you have DNA reports from other labs, they will also be accepted but will have a $10.00 recording fee required and also require the owner to enter their data on a form and submit it by email along with a copy of the lab report to the office. This ensures that all DNA accepted by ICHO is in one database for all future parentage testing.
2012 DNA Breeding Stallion requirements~ DNA typing is required of all active breeding ICHO/NACHR stallions used in 2012 breeding year and all future years and is due in ICHO office when stallion reports are filed by Feb 15, starting in 2013 and all future years. This will keep all DNA typing of breeding stallions in the U of KY database for all future parentage testing needs.
2015 DNA Breeding Mare- all foals born in 2016 must have DNA typing for the ICHO registered dam.
2018- Jan 1, 2018 all newly registered ICHO horses must be DNA typed through ICHO or submit another lab or other registry DNA report for a $10.00 recording fee.
